NOTD: Lovebirds

I don't celebrate Valentine's Day myself, I like hearts & other cute stuff on my nails, though! =) Here is today's manicure, lovebirds!
I got inspired by a clip art I found, a cute bird whispering in his girlfriend's ear. I loved the colors so I decided to turn this into today's manicure.
I used Pastel #08 as my base color. It's the lightest pink in my stash, that it almost looks white. But it's definitely pink. Very powdery, very sweet. I needed three coats, the formula is thick but not chalky. Then I freehanded the birds & the hearts using acrylic paint.

Lovebirds Nail Art

That's all for today, see you! =)

31 Day Challenge: Day 18

Hey guys =) Here is a quick post of Day 18, HALF MOON nails. For this manicure I used Konad Pastel Purple as my base color, then I painted the moons using Flor Mar Miracle Colors U33. I used Flor Mar Supermatte m120 & Pastel #82 for the roses, and Essence Trust In Fashion & P2 Artful for the leaves. I also used white acrylic paint for the stripes.

I'm too tired to write more, see you on Day 19! =D

31 Day Challenge: Day 6

On Day 6, here I am with VIOLET nails! Purple/Violet is very pretty on other nails, just not on mine. I only truly love a few purple nail polishes, the ones I like are either dark, true purples like China Glaze Grape Pop, or very pale lilacs like China Glaze Light As Air. Since I don't really love purple on its own, I decided to create an abstract manicure inspired by semi-precious stones. I used two Flor Mar Supershine Miracle Color purples, and Zoya Mimi on top of Pastel #309.

Now that I have a full-time job, I want a DSLR all for myself. What do you recommend for nail photography? I know most of the DSLR out there are pretty good with the landscape, but my main subject will be my nails, so I need one with superb macro capabilities & good saturation and contrast even when I'm taking pictures inside. Also, I need one that isn't too expensive. I'm thinking about either Canon 1000d or Nikon D3000. Are you using one of these cameras? How do you like your nail pictures taken with them? Please leave a comment with your recommendations, I'd really appreciate that =)

NOTD: Summer Skittles

I was actually meaning to show you the polishes I've hauled in the last weeks, but it feels useless and stupid as about 10 million people are suffering from drought in East Africa and about 50 children are dying each day of malnutrition, dehydration and diseases. Me and my family are going to donate here http://www.unicef.org.uk/landing-pages/hornofafricaweb/ and I suggest you to do the same, donate somewhere you think will help the affected people most effectively. Just think about it as a fall collection not purchased in time. This crisis needs swift action. Even 10$ could provide water supply, vaccination or enriched food to help the malnourished children; because there is no such thing as too few when it comes to help...
Here are some local brand polishes I hauled in the past weeks, from brands Pastel, Gabrini and Flor Mar. They have all come up with unique, summer appropriate colors I haven't seen Turkish brands coming up with before. First of all, these are Gabrini Summer Edition polishes. The last two are from their Elegant line, but I included them, too.

Top row, L-R: M101, M105, M107, M106, M108
Bottom row, L-R: M116, M109, 371, 387

I really like 371, it's the darkest navy polish I've ever seen, it feels like ink on the nails =)
Next up there are Pastel polishes:

Top row, L-R: 308, 77, 06, 123, 84, 09
Bottom row, L-R: 86, 310, 70, 55, 82, 81

I should note that 308 is a dupe for Chanel Mimosa.
Finally, here are some Flor Mar polishes I bought yesterday:

L-R: 429, 430, 423, 431

Here is a colorful, summery skittle manicure I've come up with while swatching these polishes.

Summery Skittles

Summery Skittles

Thumb is Flor Mar #431, index is Flor Mar #429, Middle is Pastel #70, Ring is Gabrini M101 and Pinky is Gabrini M107. I stamped the pink grapefruit image from m55 using Konad Special Polish in pink, and the fish on my thumb from m82 using Konad Special Polish in white.
I'm going to bed now, good night =)

Pink Wednesday: Peach Roses

It's Friday, so it's only logical for me to post the Pink Wednesday manicure =D I've been feeling down in the last few days, and now I think I'm getting the flu again. Flu, please stop stalking me! What's up with you this year?
I had these three polishes standing side by side on my couch, and I liked them together so much that I used them all for my Pink Wednesday manicure.
I started off with 3 coats of Essie Wife Goes On. Then I drew blotches of Pastel #85 with my dotting tool. Pastel #85 is the perfect cross between peach and salmon, it's so flattering on its own! Finally, I took out my fine brush and drew the highlights with the American Apparel Summer Peach franken I did.

Essie Wife Goes On & Handdrawn Roses

Essie Wife Goes On & Handdrawn Roses

That's all for today, I hope you like it!

Review: Essie Spring 2011

Today I have four polishes to show from the Essie Spring 2011 French Affair Collection. Honestly, when I first saw the collection, none of the colors really drew my interest. I thought they were a bit boring, recycled, plain, etc. But as time passed, I started to grow fond of the colors, the way they looked together, the theme, etc. And when I saw Nice Is Nice two weeks ago, oh my God, I knew I was sold at that moment.
I only cared for four of the six colors, I left out Sand Tropez and Kisses & Bises. Sand Tropez felt too close to Playa Del Platinum, and I don't really like sheer toppers like Kisses & Bises. So in the end I was provided with four colors to review.

L-R: Coat Azure, Nice Is Nice, French Affair, Topless & Barefoot.

First is Coat Azure, the pop color of the collection. Essie tends to include a pop color like Pretty Edgy, Going Incognito, Mesmerize etc. along with more traditional shades. Coat Azure is a dusty blue with a very subtle, pearl-like shimmer to it. I really love it, it's really calming, very springy and looks gorgeous. Like all swatches of the collection, I did 3 coats, although this one was good with 2. The consistency was great. Colorwise, I would call this one Tufts Blue.

I realized I don't have many medium blues in my stash, so I compared this with Essie Lapis of Luxury.
Lapis of Luxury is a cornflower blue jelly, contains no shimmer and is warmer & lighter than Coat Azure.

Nice Is Nice is my favorite from this collection. It has a certain warmness that is not too much, it's a very flattering polish, perfect for spring. You can get away with 2 coats, but 3 coats was perfection. The color can be described as Mauve.

I compared Nice Is Nice with other lilacs from my stash. Eyeko Lilac Polish doesn't really belong, it's darker than a pastel lilac. Essie Lilacism is a cooler version of Nice Is Nice, contains way too much blue to be a dupe. China Glaze Light As Air is much lighter & paler.

French Affair is a cool toned, pastel pink. I love mod pinks and this one had a nice application and unique look about it. First I thought I must have a dupe of this somewhere, but looks like I don't. Pictured is 3 coats. I would call this Rich Brilliant Lavender.

I compared French Affair with Flor Mar Supershine #29 and China Glaze Something Sweet. Something Sweet is the lighter version of French Affair. #29 doesn't contain as much blue, it looks neutral compared to the other two pinks.

Topless And Barefoot is an interesting shade. It's a warm toned nude polish, yet it's muted, like a very very light warm taupe. It's very edgy once on the nail. Imagine a lighter version of Ecru. Like the rest, this was 3 coats.

I don't have many similar polishes, so I compared this with her Essie sisters. Body Language is much more grey toned and is cooler. Miss Matched is a grey leaning, very pale pink. Just to give you an idea where T&B falls.

Altogether, it's a lovely spring collection. I love how the polishes look so well together & how they match the French theme, they remind me of macarons =) The mini set includes the exact same colors I reviewed, you can get that one too if you don't want to spend on full bottles.

* Essie polishes were provided for me by Essie Turkey.

Bugün sizlere Essie Spring 2011 French Affair Koleksiyonu'ndan dört oje tanıtacağım. Dürüst olmak gerekirse koleksiyonun ilk tanıtımları yapılırken şöyle bir bakmıştım da, neredeyse hiçbir oje ilgimi çekmemişti. Renklerin sıkıcı, daha önce yapılmış, özelliksiz renkler olduğunu düşünmüştüm. Ama aradan zaman geçtikçe gözüm alışmaya başladı, ilkbahar temasıyla çok uyumlu olduklarını düşünmeye başladım, bazı denemek istedim. İki hafta önce Nice Is Nice isimli ojeyi gözümle gördüğüm anda ise pes etmiştim bile =)
Soldan sağa: Coat Azure, Nice Is Nice, French Affair, Topless & Barefoot.
Öncelikle Coat Azure, koleksiyonun öne çıkan rengi. Essie genellikle her koleksiyonda tek bir öne çıkan renk bulunduruyor. Pretty Edgy, Going Incognito, Mesmerize bunlardan birkaç tanesi.
Buna benzer tarzda renklerim pek yok, sanırım tercih etmiyorum. Essie Lapis of Luxury ile kıyaslarsak Lapis of Luxury'nin daha mora yakın ve açık bir renk olduğunu, jel yapıda olduğunu ve ışıltı içermediğini görebilirsiniz.
Nice Is Nice, bu koleksiyondaki favorim.
Benim buna benzeyen ojem pek yok.
%20 indirim ve Matte About You hediyesiyle oldukça karlı bir alışveriş yapabilirsiniz =) Bu arada eğer İstinye Park'a yolunuz düşmezse, aynı indirim web sayfalarında da geçerli =)

NOTD: I Come Bearing Gifts!

It's 4 hours past the last day of Christmas, and here is my manicure =)
First I wanted to draw a Christmas tree on my ring finger and decorate it with various things, but then I decided that covering all my nails with gift wrappings would be a better idea. So here I present my gifts for you!

I'm going to explain all nails one-by-one, cookies for everyone who reads till the end =)

Thumb: Alix Avien #231 is the base, I stamped the design from bm20 in black, drew a dark green ribbon with acrylic paint and put a purple rhinestone in the middle.
Index: Pastel #32 is the base, I stamped the houndstooth design from bm19 with Konad Wine Red, drew a silver ribbon with Alix Avien #231 and put a light green rhinestone in the middle.
Middle: Orly Glitz & Glamour is the base, I stamped the stars design from bm20 with China Glaze 2030, drew a red ribbon with acrylic paint and put a gold rhinestone in the middle.
Ring: Finger Paints Evergreen Dream (Oh my God, gorgeous!) is the base, I stamped the stripes design from bm20 with Avon Peppermint Leaf, drew a green ribbon using acrylic paint and put a red rhinestone in the middle.

Phew, that was a lot of talking =) I hope you enjoyed my tiny gifts!

Review: Chanel's Turkish Twins

Hello guys =) I'm happy to inform that Turkish nail polish brands are finally catching up with the latest trends =) After Sevilla, Pastel has come up with four different shades for the winter, and two of them are mimicking the latest Chanel colors, Paradoxal and Khaki Brun.
Here is Pastel #25, also called Khaki, as it stands on the label. Although I don't have it to compare, I'm about 100% positive that this is meant to be a dupe for Chanel Khaki Brun. It's a medium brown creme with a distinct hint of green. It's sort of a drab color, and the best description I found was Field Drab. I adore these murky, dirty, ugly colors on my nails =)

This is two coats, and dried pretty fast & glossy. Great job, Pastel! After seeing lots of taupes last year, this is feels pretty refreshing =)
Another color Pastel released is Pastel #69, a greyed-out taupe with purple shimmer. You're probably familiar with this description from Chanel Paradoxal. I don't have this polish swatched on my nails, but here are bottle & nail wheel comparison pictures:

As you can see, Pastel #69 has a similar base with Barry M Dusky Mauve (Known as a dead-on dupe for Paradoxal) but it's the amount of purple shimmer that makes a difference, because the overall look is more purple. Sevilla #144 (swatched here) has a warmer base color and a warmer shimmer color, but the same amount of shimmer with Dusky Mauve. The overall look is warmer than Dusky Mauve (Paradoxal).

Bottle pics, from left to right: Pastel #69, Barry M Dusky Mauve, Sevilla #144.
Finally, I have a polish from Sevilla, which is supposed to be a dupe for Chanel Khaki Vert. Sevilla #145 is a light army green, or as Wikipedia calls it, Asparagus Green.

This one is pretty pigmented and creamy, good to go in 2 coats and it also dried very fast.
Again, I don't have the original Khaki Vert to compare, because they were sold here for a crazy $50 here! I feel so lucky that Turkish brands are trying to make dupes for these "trendy" colors =)
I hope you enjoyed my long review!

From The Vault: Ruby

I am too sleepy to come up with a creative title. Something NOT Ruby related. Or Dorothy's shoes.
Here is Pastel #32, a warm red polish with lots of fine red glitter. Looks like this could be an alternative for China Glaze Ruby Pumps. This time the polish is layered over Inglot mint green from the first unsuccessful swatching, but it quickly becomes opaque on its own, too.

It's a jaw-droppingly gorgeous polish. I love glittery reds so much.

From The Vault: I Got The Look! =D

This manicure was inspired by ALU's Quick Gradation Mani. Of course mine is nowhere near, but I'm glad I found a use for my too sheer neon purple polish.
I used Pastel's neon purple, which is a LE color, over Illamasqua Muse. The purple is sheer, but not as sheer as it's supposed to be for gradation, that's why it built up pretty quickly.

I'm not sure I really like this manicure, but it's interesting and fun to do.

Pastel'in yaz için çıkardığı neon ojelerden mor olanını kullandım.

From The Vault: Tropical Cocktail

Hi guys =) Here is my entry for Polish Hoarder's last challenge. We were supposed to do a summer themed manicure, using the sponging technique. I decided to use neons, since I'm all over them this summer. I used Pastel's neon yellow (#302) as a base over white, then sponged over it using Pastel's neon orange (#303), China Glaze In The Lime Light, and China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise. Finally I stamped the pineapple from m29 on top in black. Don't they look like tropical cocktails? =)

Selam arkadaşlar =) Polish Hoarder'in son yarışması için yaptığım manikürle karşınızdayım. Beyaz üzerine bir kat Pastel neon sarı (#302) sürdüm, sonra üzerine süngerle Pastel neon turuncu (#303), China Glaze In The Lime Light, ve China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise uyguladım. Son olarak m29 diskindeki ananas desenini siyahla damgaladım. Tropik içkilere benzemiyor mu tırnaklarım? =)

Review: Viva La Nails Sample Pack - Part 2

Click here for the first part of the review.
Here is another manicure I did using products from the Viva La Nails sample pack. This time I used small orange/green hexagonal glitter and flower stickers.

I bought two neon polishes today, yellow and orange. They are very sheer. Any guesses how many coats I had to use to get this manicure nearly opaque? =) I wish I had an opaque white at hand. Anyway, after a million coats I added the flower stickers on thumbs and rings, and sprinkled some hexagonal glitter on all nails. I really like the result:
